Frosted Glass, the Old Cedar Tree and a Fence Post

When it is warm inside and sub-zero temperatures outside, if you get condensation on your storm door, you are lucky enough to get this…Beautiful swirls and spikes of frost on your window. So, so pretty. I want to try more macro type photography and I have been reading up on it so I am better prepared for this in the future as I don’t think I did this frosty window justice. But, we are usually our own worst critics, right?

As I was heading out to open the gate, the old cedar tree in my front yard waved good morning to me in the breeze. I admired its frosty gray look in the dim morning light. To me it is both magnificent and an eyesore…

I have a love/hate relationship with this tree. I don’t like it because it has grown over the sidewalk from the front door to the front gate, it blocks my view of the street from my office window, and its just HUGE. I love it because it is huge, and blocks my view of the street (contradictory, I know…). I can tell how much the wind is blowing by its sway, a pair of roadrunners nest in it and other assorted birds that add song to our day. We had a light dusting of snow during the night and it was a little breezy, that caused the snow to settle on one side of the branches, but not the other, so when you looked at it one way, it had the look of a recently flocked Christmas tree…

When you looked at it from the other side, the branches were barely frosted around the edges.

There was a lot of texture there, so much to look at and admire.

This old railroad tie was at one time, a fence post. It’s a bit out of place, but tree roots have grown around it, so we haven’t removed it for fear of killing the tree and leaving a big hole. The light dusting of snow on it’s splintered edges, accentuating the grains in the wood. White snow, dark background. I found it appealing.
