EIGHT WHOLE DAYS of below freezing temperatures! Most of us are not fans of cold weather, but I have learned to take the good with the bad, and while doing chores…I found this!!! In my opinion, this was the good part of the bad weather. This is not the first time it has happened, but these are some of the better pictures I have taken of it. In my pasture I have a mattress, covered in a tarp, for my horses to walk over, and when there is moisture in the air, these little fern-like-ice-tree-spikes form- (that’s the technical term for them <wink, wink>).

I think I need to start going out and walking around taking pictures with my camera BEFORE I do chores because once again I used the trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for these.

I captured some untouched snow with the sun reflecting on it causing “the glitter effect”. Pictures never really do this justice, but I think this one turned out exceptionally well compared to other times I have tried. The time of day, sunlight, all of that has to be taken into account, and its just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

The two pictures I took turned out pretty good…I did one in landscape mode (above) and one in portrait mode (below). I have been teaching the kids about the different modes on their cameras and how it affects the focal point. These pictures are very good examples of that.

Since I have a fascination with this frosty stuff, I have been reading up on macro photography and how I can improve the fine detail of close up pictures like these, I have a prime macro lens already, I just need to get it out and use it… but I also learned about macro extension tubes and how they can get in even closer without losing detail or buying a more expensive lens. I did a lot of research to find a set to add to my equipment bag, I am really looking forward to their arrival and hoping we get some more frosty fern like trees before winter is over! But even if we don’t have anymore cold wintry frost, macro photography is fun in the garden too! After this past week I am ready for some blooming flowers, bees covered in pollen, and tiny insects marching along the path…
