While taking pictures at our riding club play day and trying out the panning technique during the flag race, this young horse decided he wanted to spook at the flag after the rider picked it up out of the bucket. This young man decided in that moment to make the wrong thing hard for the horse. This is a fairly common training technique, when a horse does something wrong, you make that wrong thing difficult and uncomfortable. The horse soon realizes that this is not fun, that it’s a lot of work, and that doing the right thing is a lot easier. The young man swung that flag around and really gave the horse something to spook at. The horse commenced to bucking for all it was worth. The young man is quite the rider and stuck to that horse for the entire ride. That horse bucked almost half the length of the arena. And you can see that by the last picture in the gallery the horse stopped spooking and stopped bucking. The pictures are in sequence as I shot them. Makes for an interesting picture story!
