An Ancient Crane

I had traveled this particular road several times before this rusting piece of equipment flashed in my peripheral vision. When you travel a lot, wandering from one random rural location to the next, you see ancient things. Old pieces of farm machinery, implements, houses, and fences to name a few, but a crane? It made me hit the brakes and back up to take a closer look, was it really there?

The Ancient Crane amongst the foliage.

Yep. There it was. Perched on a small strip of dry land between two ponds surrounded by lush, early summer foliage. I of course got the camera from the backseat and started snapping a few pictures. So much shadow, green leaves, and pond scum. And then the old brown metal and rust. You can still see the tracks, the pulleys, and the cable. Most of the other inner workings are rotted away. The tree branch follows the arm reaching towards the sky and then disappears behind the leaves. A forgotten relic.

And old forgotten relic.
